The Promise is to You

When God has become man, and stepped into time so that we can step into eternity with Him, how else can we respond but with praise? And as we praise, we will taste the sweetness of Heaven! To aid your worship, below are three simple steps and a set of Christmas songs that draws from […]

Evangelizing Can Be Easy?!

In response to Upper Room’s invitation to share stories about proclaiming God’s love, Laura sent in these stories. I went to Upper Room and felt God convict me that I needed to initiate conversations with people about Jesus more, instead of just trying to be kind and loving and solely waiting on them to bring […]

DIY Praise and Worship: Advent Edition

The purpose of Advent is to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus. One of the most effective ways we can do this is through praising and worshiping him. When we praise and worship Jesus, we recognize who he is. He is God incarnated as a man who came to earth so that we could know […]

A Dry Tree or a Watered Garden?

Some days I get virtually nothing done. I accomplish little on my “To Do” List and my own cares and the cares of those near to me dominate my thinking, stealing my joy. Why would I not turn to God? Why rely on my own resources when I know that God is only a heartbeat […]

Evangelism and the Gift of Tongues

Personal prayer in tongues is the only one of the charismatic gifts that is not by definition oriented to the benefit of others. Prophets prophesy to other people. Healers heal other people. Prophetic words proclaimed in tongues are for other people, who then pray for an interpretation. Yet St. Paul says that tongues is for […]

When we Hesitate to go Into the Deep

Peter did it, too. Jesus told him in Lk 5:1-11 to “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Peter doubted if anything would happen. He replied, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing.” Today we phrase it: “Been there, done that.” And many times we have […]

Encountering People in Parking Lots…and Churches

In response to Upper Room’s invitation to share stories about proclaiming God’s love, Anne Harman sent in these two stories. Parking in the back, shaded area of the church lot for noon Mass meant that the cooler in my car with lunch for my mom would stay cold. It also meant a fair, hot walk […]

Impelled by Love (or: How an Introvert Evangelized at the Art Fair and Actually Liked It)

The thing about writing a blog like the one I did two weeks ago is that the writer is on the hook to do exactly what she wrote about. When the title is “Now is the Time: Proclaim God’s Love” that can be a bit intimidating. I’ve had my share of nervousness about such things, […]

“Now is the Time: Proclaim God’s Love”

This is the prophetic call that the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Michigan is hearing strongly. It was the theme of the annual All Michigan Catholic Charismatic Conference (AMCCC) event held on July 8-10 with keynotes by James “Butch” Murphy. It’s Go-Time for all of us…and no, it’s not referring to Pokémon. It refers to the […]

Springtime

Spring dawns almost like the sun. Nearly imperceptibly sticks presumed dead furl forth buds. This year they whisper to me: “Glory.” I pause a moment to see if I’ve heard correctly and again they whisper “Glory! Glory!” Then I shiver with goosebumps not from cold but from holy fear and awe. God is once more […]
