The Promise is to You

DIY Praise & Worship: Lenten Edition

Praise music isn’t usually associated with Lent. Somber, penitential music comes to the fore during this season, and for good reason. The purpose of Lent is to remind us of our need for a Savior and to prepare our hearts for Jesus. Sober repentance is necessary. But that doesn’t mean we should stop praising Him. […]

ANNUNCIATION: Joining Together the 2017 Jubilees of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and Our Lady of Fatima

In the providence of God, 2017 is marked by two major anniversaries in the Church: the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima. The first time that Mary and the Holy Spirit came together, Jesus came into the world! I believe that the […]

Living in the Graces of This Jubilee Year

“To grow in love is to grow in the Spirit. To grow in the Spirit is to grow in holiness. Holiness is the will of God for us.” With these words, Bp. Sam Jacobs reminded us at the “50 Years of Amazing Grace” conference of our fundamental call as disciples of Christ. We are to […]

DIY Praise and Worship: Advent Edition

The purpose of Advent is to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus. One of the most effective ways we can do this is through praising and worshiping him. When we praise and worship Jesus, we recognize who he is. He is God incarnated as a man who came to earth so that we could know […]

When we Hesitate to go Into the Deep

Encountering People in Parking Lots…and Churches

In response to Upper Room’s invitation to share stories about proclaiming God’s love, Anne Harman sent in these two stories. Parking in the back, shaded area of the church lot for noon Mass meant that the cooler in my car with lunch for my mom would stay cold. It also meant a fair, hot walk […]

Impelled by Love (or: How an Introvert Evangelized at the Art Fair and Actually Liked It)

The thing about writing a blog like the one I did two weeks ago is that the writer is on the hook to do exactly what she wrote about. When the title is “Now is the Time: Proclaim God’s Love” that can be a bit intimidating. I’ve had my share of nervousness about such things, […]

Springtime

Spring dawns almost like the sun. Nearly imperceptibly sticks presumed dead furl forth buds. This year they whisper to me: “Glory.” I pause a moment to see if I’ve heard correctly and again they whisper “Glory! Glory!” Then I shiver with goosebumps not from cold but from holy fear and awe. God is once more […]
