The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined. ~Is 9:2
The sun broke through the cloud-covered winter sky as I read these words. They took on a new meaning as the thick, gloomy grayness was unexpectedly dispelled.
With the light came warmth and comfort. It was easier to see; what was around me was revealed.
Sitting in the sunlight can teach us about the Light of Christ. In the warm light, our bodies naturally relax. We breathe more deeply. Our fears drift away. Joy springs up and reminds us that there is good in this world. A great Good, that reaches far beyond our lives to cover the world better than sunlight covers the sky. He is there, as faithful as the dawn.
In His light, the darkness in our lives wanes to become as fleeting as the night. It remains dark, but we realize that it will not last: morning will come.
By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. ~Lk 1:78-79
